On the 1st December The Access Project West Midlands welcomed the official start to the party season and held its annual Christmas tutor meet up at Cherry Reds on John Bright Street. There was a great turnout and the room was bursting at the seams as everyone arrived at once.

It was a chance to thank our amazing volunteer tutors for their commitment to supporting the young people they work with throughout the year and to welcome some new volunteers to the project. With mince pies aplenty, tutors shared some of their funniest tutoring moments in 2016. Here are a few of them….

Tutee ‘This is a nice small office’
Tutor ‘This is reception’

‘My tutee brought a test for me!’

‘My tutee was telling me an anecdote, got very excited and started speaking very quickly. She said OMG then went bright red, put her hands over her face and said ‘I can’t believe I said OMG to you’’

‘My tutee hid from me!’

Although we repeat ourselves every year, it is our tutors that are key to making The Access Project successful in supporting young people to progress onto top universities. In 2017 we aim to grow in the West Midlands working with more schools and so need more tutors to make this happen. Please do spread the word and contact caroline@theaccessproject.org.uk to find out more.
