***This post is for current Access Project tutors***

Thank you for all your ongoing support as a volunteer tutor with The Access Project. We want to let you know about some small changes we have made to our volunteering programme for the new academic year 2017/18.

Not much has changed, you will still meet with your tutee for one hour per week during term time
The Access Project will still provide you with access to online resources and support from our team

However, we’ve outlined our expectations more clearly so all tutors know what is asked of them in this volunteer role;

Our Programme Coordinators (PCs) are now called University Access Officers (UAOs) – their role in school remains the same and they will continue to support you in the same way they always have.

We know that a good tutorial requires some preparation time. Therefore, we ask that all tutors spend thirty minutes preparing ahead of their session each week. We have planning sheets to help you do this and further support is available if you need it.

Compliance emails will continue to be sent every Friday as usual, these are vital for our safeguarding records. If you are going to be away and know you will miss a week of tutorials, please tell your UAO ahead of time. If we do not know you will be away, we cannot stop the emails and text reminders being sent to you.

Volunteer tutors should let us know of any changes to their contact details, especially change of tutorial locations or email addresses. You can email your UAO directly or if you are not matched with a student currently, you can email volunteering@theaccessproject.org.uk.

Tutor attendance – volunteer tutors should be available to deliver tutorials once per week during term time and for weeks where you will be unavailable, please tell your UAO. We ask that tutors are willing to make up missed weeks where possible. If a volunteer tutor is available for two or fewer tutorials a month and has not informed their UAO of absence, the pairing will be monitored and a member of the team will contact the tutor to discuss things further.

Cancellation of tutorials – Tutors must notify students at least 24 hours prior to the start of the tutorial where possible. In extreme cases if this is not possible, the tutor should make every attempt to contact the student and should also contact their UAO to pass on the message.
