Leading The Access Project’s volunteer recruitment work, I really enjoy taking our mission and message out to new audiences.

The work the recruitment team does is often the first time that someone will come across The Access Project’s programme and the impact we demonstrate. Helping someone see themselves as part of our project, and understand that they can make a significant positive difference with one of our young people, is something I really love and find incredibly rewarding.

Why work here

People who work at The Access Project are motivated by wanting to create a fairer society. We value every individual who works here. We all play an active part in achieving the mission to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities.

At The Access Project, we’re collaborative, supportive and inclusive. We regularly have opportunities for people to share their ideas in various working groups, generating strong teamwork across the organisation. In our last staff engagement survey, 90% said they’re proud to tell people where they work.

Our people strategy vision is to enable and inspire all employees to achieve, grow, succeed and thrive. We have a wide range of benefits that make The Access Project a rewarding place to work. We are a Living Wage Employer because we believe that our colleagues deserve a wage which meets everyday needs, and we offer a London Weighting Allowance for roles based in London.

Staff on our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee are implementing key initiatives to build an inclusive culture and we have gained Disability Confident Level 1 accreditation. Read more about our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion vision below.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion vision

The Access Project is committed to being an organisation where everyone is welcome, appreciated, and respected. We will ensure that all those who work and volunteer for us are encouraged and enabled to be themselves and can thrive in an inclusive environment. The Access Project will foster an equitable culture built on community, inclusivity, diversity, and a bold idea of acceptance, where different experiences are not only accepted but celebrated.

The Access Project aspires to represent the diversity of communities across the UK at all levels of the organisation and proactively takes steps to support this. We commit to supporting our students to get to top universities: emphasising, embracing, and listening to their diverse range of lived experiences.

We commit to creating space for staff and volunteers to raise concerns about any experience of discriminatory behaviour, which will be listened to and addressed at a senior level. We have a Dignity at Work policy in place which states what steps can be taken if a concern is raised.

The Access Project commits to creating a culture where the experiences and voices of people from marginalised backgrounds are listened to and valued; where their skills are appreciated; and where their talents are nurtured and encouraged. The Access Project will embody the values that we champion through our work, and we will hold ourselves accountable if we get things wrong. We recognise that by embracing diversity, our ability to meet the needs of the young people we support will improve, while fostering greater space for innovation and collaboration.
