Today we continue our Student Awards Week celebrations by recognising the achievements of our year 12 and year 13 students who have exceeded expectations in their participation in the programme. We have awarded four Year 12 and Year 13 students with our Student of the Year award.

Hear from the students, and the University Access Officer who nominated them for this prize.

Student of the Year award winners

The Access Project student Suzana with her University Access Officer Beth

Suzana, Year 12, St George’s Roman Catholic School

On winning this prize, Suzana said: “I didn’t expect my tutors to become my number one supporters. The tutorials have allowed me to see myself progress in class. Having support from my UAO and tutors through Sixth Form has put me at ease and made me more ambitious about the future.”

Suzana’s University Access Officer said: “Suzana is an outstanding student who has adapted amazingly to sixth form and all the challenges of this year. She picked up Spanish A-level in the Summer term and has taken on catching up with all the missed work, with the help of her tutor. She is now tutored in two subjects and has near 100% attendance, choosing to continue with Spanish tutorials over summer. Susana also does Portuguese outside of school meaning she does 5 A-levels.

Belle, Year 13, West Nottinghamshire College

Belle’s University Access Officer said: “Belle refused to let school closures scupper her ambition. She embraced online learning, continued attending tutorials and even found the time to attend numerous virtual mock interviews with her University Access Officer in preparation for university admissions interviews. All of this was rewarded and Belle received an offer from the University of Bristol. Over the coming months, Belle’s approach to her studies was faultless and she did everything she could going into her final assessments. Not only did she get the grades needed but with ABB she exceeded her target grades and is ready to take the first steps on her veterinary medicine course full of confidence.”

Suzana and Bell are two of the four Year 12 and 13 students have won the Student of the Year Award.
