Over three days during February and March, around 320 students will be visiting St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. The Access Project will be taking all of our Year 10 students to visit this historic and famous college. The aims of the trip are to increase students’ knowledge and confidence. In particular, we want to show students what is required of them when applying to highly-selective universities and that their personal circumstances should not prevent them from considering these institutions. Activities will include a tour of the college with current students, as well as taster lectures and a quiz. (Oh, and of course, as teenagers are involved, it’s important not to forget the lunch!)
March will see The Access Project bringing our highest ability Year 12 students from across our partner schools to St Catharine’s. The aim of the day: to help them make successful applications to Oxbridge. In England, 15% of children receive free school meals, yet only 2% of students at the top 25 universities received free school meals when they were at school. We hope that this trip will help our students bridge the attainment gap that exists between the least and most privileged students in the country.
