The Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) student network at the University of St Andrews has selected The Access Project as their charity of the year! As part of that they will be fundraising for us over the coming months.
Charity of the year
Abeer Asrani, the Sponsorship and Development Officer for the BAME student network said: “The Access Project stood out to us because our mutual goals of increasing diversity within the student body align perfectly. From the outside, St Andrews can seem exclusive and inaccessible to the average student but as the BAME student network we aspire to change this reputation by showcasing the wide spectrum of cultures and backgrounds to be found at our university.
“We hope that by working with The Access Project we can inspire more students from diverse backgrounds to apply and enhance our student body while also taking advantage of a world class education.”
Fundraising for The Access Project
As part of being selected as charity of the year, the BAME student network will also be fundraising for us. They will have donation boxes at events, run an online fundraising campaign, as well as raising funds by selling their own committee merchandise.
Alice Reilly, our Head of University Partnerships, said: “We’re delighted that the St Andrews BAME student network will be fundraising for us this year. It’s fantastic to see students committed to making their university more diverse and accessible to young people from all backgrounds. 74% of our students are from Black, Asian or Mixed Ethnicity backgrounds and this additional support will make a huge difference to them.”
