Today (Wednesday 24 November) the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), Sutton Trust and Department for Education have launched a landmark report on universities and social mobility.

The Access Project’s statement

A spokesperson from The Access Project said: “We welcome today’s report from the IFS, Sutton Trust and the Department for Education. It confirms that attending more selective institutions offers the best chances for social mobility.

“We work with a number of England’s top universities to help level the playing field for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This includes work with our proud partner Queen Mary, University of London, who the IFS have recognised as having the strongest record in admitting students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“We recognise that more needs to be done – particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic which has disproportionately affected disadvantaged young people. We are here to work with England’s leading universities to boost social mobility.”
