It’s Student Volunteering Week, and we’re taking this opportunity to celebrate all of the 134 student volunteer tutors who are giving up their time to support our young pupils.
Today we meet Jason, who is studying at Queen Mary University of London. Jason enrolled as a volunteer tutor in October 2022.
Why did you apply to be a volunteer tutor for The Access Project?
I wanted to gain some experience working in a role that would require leadership and would be beneficial towards improving my CV.
What has been the most rewarding part of volunteering?
Honestly helping a student and seeing that you are making an impact and you yourself can see it with your own eyes over a matter of weeks.
What has been the most challenging part of volunteering?
The hardest part is getting to know your student and finding out which method is best to teach them, but after that it’s quite a simple and relaxed experience.
What would you say to anyone who is considering applying to become a volunteer?
It’s worth a try! It gives you skills in teamwork and leadership and you can make a real world impact while doing so.

Overall it is a great opportunity to volunteer in which you gain a lot from the experience and can give back to the community.
